Mesenchymal stem cells are pluripotent stem cells, which have all the commonalities of stem cells, namely self-renewal and multilineage differentiation potential. At present, mesenchymal stem cells are most widely used stem cells in clinical applications. The combination application of mesenchymal stem cells with hematopoietic stem cells can improve the success rate of transplantation and can accelerate hematopoietic reconstruction. After the patient received high-dose chemotherapy, mesenchymal stem cells and hematopoietic stem cells are administered together in the patient. It can significantly accelerate the recovery time of blood cells in patient, and it is safe and has no adverse reactions.

Mesenchymal stem cells are a type of non-hematopoietic adult stem cells which exist in many tissues (such as bone marrow, cord blood, umbilical cord tissue, placenta tissue, adipose tissue, etc.) and have multilineage differentiation potential. These stem cells have the potential to differentiate into a variety of mesenchymal cells (such as osteoblasts, chondroblasts and adipocytes) or non-mesenchymal cells, and have unique cytokine secretion function. Mesenchymal stem cells can be used as cell models for proliferation, transplantation and differentiation studies, and identification of immune responses in vitro.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are a type of pluripotent stem cells belonging to mesoderm. Mesenchymal stem cells are mainly found in connective tissue and organ mesenchyme, and the content in bone marrow is the most abundant. Since bone marrow is the main source of mesenchymal stem cells, they are collectively called bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. These immunologic characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells make them have broad clinical application prospects in the treatment of hematologic diseases. Autologous transplantation can reconstruct organ/tissue structure and function, and immune rejection can be avoided. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells have the following characteristics:

  • Strong Proliferation Capability

    Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells have strong multilineage differentiation potential, and have the ability to differentiate into various cells such as myocytes, hepatocytes, osteoblasts, adipocytes, chondrocytes, stromal cells, etc. in a suitable in vivo or in vitro environment.

  • Immunomodulatory Functions

    Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells have immunoregulatory functions, and play an important role in immune reconstitution by interacting with each other, producing cytokines to inhibit T cell proliferation and immune responses.

  • Convenient Source

    The source of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells is convenient. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are easy to isolate, culture, expand and purify. After many times of expansion by passage, they still have the characteristics of stem cells. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells will not cause immune rejection.

  • Mild Allograft Rejection

    The bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are unclear in appearance, and the surface antigens are not apparent. The allograft rejection is mild.
